Emergency Dentistry in Hawthorn East
You can’t predict when a dental emergency will strike, so at Hawthorn Dental Hub, we do everything we can to be available whenever you’re faced with an emergency like severe pain, swelling, a broken tooth or a knocked-out tooth.
What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
In general, a damaged tooth, swelling or severe pain are signs of an emergency. If you’re not sure, give us a call and we will let you know how to proceed. Some common emergency situations include:
- Damaged Tooth: A tooth may be damaged in a sporting or other type of accident, or you may break or chip a tooth eating very hard foods. Depending on the nature of the damage, we will repair and restore the tooth, often with a crown or bonding. Although it is always our goal to save the tooth, in some cases, extraction may be the only option.
- Tooth Loss: If a tooth has been knocked out in an accident, we may be able to replace it if we see you right away. Wrap the tooth in cling wrap and call us immediately. If you take an over the counter pain reliever, be sure to tell us when you come in.
- Severe Pain: A severe toothache is often a sign of infection. A buildup of decay can cause a bacterial infection or abscess that results in pain. It’s important to come in as soon as possible to prevent the spread of the infection and further damage.
- Wisdom Tooth Pain: If your wisdom teeth are not coming in as they should, they can become impacted, resulting in pain and potentially damaging adjacent teeth. Addressing the issue promptly can help get you out of pain and reduce possible damage.
